A Westminster man was killed Sunday in a two-vehicle collision on Route 97 near Old Washington Road in Westminster, Maryland State Police said in a news release.
Richard Snyder, 78, of Westminster, was transported to Carroll Hospital following the crash, where he was pronounced dead.
Maryland State Police responded to the collision shortly after 2 p.m. Sunday, and determined that a Volkswagen driven by Lydia Hansen, 29, of Baltimore, was traveling south on Route 97 when the vehicle collided head-on with a Chevrolet truck driven by Snyder. State police said the cause of the crash is unknown.
Hansen was flown by helicopter to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore and treated for her injuries.
Maryland Route 97 was closed for more than two hours for the crash investigation, which is being led by the state police crash team. Once the investigation is complete, findings will be submitted to the Carroll County State’s Attorney’s Office, which will determine if any charges will be made.
