Senior Citizens in Northwest Baltimore are on edge after a string of recent carjackings which have led at least three people to the hospital.
For the third time in a week, an elderly suspect has been the victim of a violent carjacking.
The latest happened on Friday, a 62-year-old woman said she was face to face with a gun as two suspects took her car just before 11:30 p.m.
On Thursday, a 79-year-old disabled man was assaulted and carjacked. Two 15-year-olds were later arrested, but not before crashing the victim’s car into a light pole.
Eight juveniles bailed out of the vehicle near the intersection of North Avenue and Eutaw Street.
Police say they were shortly apprehended and detained by officers.
The juveniles detained at the scene ranged in age from 14 to 16 years old, police say.
Officers arrested two 15-year-old males and transported them to the Juvenile Justice Center where they were processed and charged accordingly.
Police say the remaining six juveniles were treated by medical personnel and released to a parent or guardian, pending juvenile referrals.
“I’m having real trouble raising my arm and I’m hurting all the way down. And I’m gonna go get some pictures taken later,” the victim told FOX45 News.
On Monday, an 83-year-old woman was assaulted and carjacked just before 3 p.m., and less than a mile away, a 16-year-old was arrested for that incident. Police say the teen was responsible for several other robberies in the past.
Back in September, in the same neighborhood, an elderly woman was run over by her own vehicle while being carjacked by juveniles.
At this week’s public safety meeting, Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley revealed that carjackings by juveniles went up 233% from last year.
But when it comes to the Northwest District from the past 7 days, it went up 200%.
