The Cordish Cos., the Baltimore-based developer of hotels, casinos and entertainment-focused projects, will build an entertainment district for the Miami Marlins’ loanDepot park in partnership with the MLB club, the Marlins said Tuesday.

Miami Live! will include indoor and outdoor dining, entertainment and community programming designed to extend the fan experience at the ballpark, said Cordish Cos.

The fourth-generation, family-owned company also developed Power Plant Live! in downtown Baltimore and Maryland Live! Casino & Hotel in Hanover.

The ballclub selected Cordish Cos. to develop its campus because of the firm’s reputation across the sports and entertainment landscape nationally and in South Florida, said Bruce Sherman, Marlins chairman and principal owner, in an statement Tuesday.

Cordish Cos. has become known for creating sports-anchored, mixed-use developments and has formed partnerships with sports franchises and media companies including the St. Louis Cardinals, Texas Rangers, Philadelphia Flyers, Comcast Spectacor, Bally Sports, NBC Sports, Professional Bull Riders and Sporting KC.

The company is behind Kansas City Live! and Bally Sports Live! at Ballpark Village in St. Louis and is building a 223-acre, mixed-use resort in Pompano Beach, Florida, with Caesars Entertainment.

Baseball clubs and other sports franchises have increasingly sought to draw fans year-round by anchoring stadiums with mixed-use developments that can include residential, retail and entertainment uses.

In Miami, the developer plans a “transformational world-class project that has lasting impacts on the community” through job creation, economic benefits and year-round events, David Cordish, company chairman and CEO, said in a statement. “Miami Live! will become the living room for the community.”

The company, founded in 1910, said it drew a record 60 million visitors last year to its destinations and Live! branded entertainment districts, hotels and casinos in the U.S.
