SARASOTA, Fla. — In David Rubenstein’s first spring training as Orioles owner, the club’s television network isn’t changing its M.O.
The Mid-Atlantic Sports Network will broadcast eight of the Orioles’ 30 games during spring training, the club announced Wednesday afternoon. Eight games is far fewer than most regional sports networks show for their MLB teams, but it’s one more than MASN aired last spring.
MASN will kick off its broadcast schedule this spring by showing the Orioles’ Grapefruit League opener at Ed Smith Stadium versus the Pittsburgh Pirates on Feb. 22.
The network will also show the following seven contests:
March 1 vs. Pittsburgh
March 3 vs. Boston
March 10 vs. Pittsburgh
March 11 at New York Yankees
March 17 at Boston
March 20 vs. New York Yankees
March 22 at Pittsburgh
Each game begins at 1:05 p.m. except for the March 10 game against the Pirates and the March 20 contest versus the Yankees. The game March 3 will also be televised on ESPN.
MASN traditionally broadcasts the same number of Washington Nationals games, but their schedule has yet to be released.
From 2021 to 2023 under then-CEO and Chairman John Angelos, MASN broadcast only nine of the Orioles’ 72 spring training games.
Before it was raised to seven in 2024, the network aired just four games in 2023.
The lack of spring training broadcasts from MASN has long irked some fans who are eager to move on from football season and want to watch the Orioles play in sunny Florida.
Most MLB teams’ broadcast partners televise far more games than MASN does. Last year, Sportsnet showed 26 of the Toronto Blue Jays’ games, including all 15 home contests. The Los Angeles Dodgers in recent years have broadcast nearly all of their games.
This year, NESN will broadcast 23 Red Sox spring training games. The YES Network will show 24 Yankees games. Fifteen of the Seattle Mariners’ games will be televised.
MASN did not make major alterations to its broadcast team. Kevin Brown, Ben McDonald, Jim Palmer, Geoff Arnold, Brett Hollander, Ben Wagner, Rob Long, Melanie Newman, Brian Roberts and Dave Johnson are all returning for 2025.
The network did see a few changes this offseason. Executive Greg Bader became MASN’s executive vice president and general manager, and MASNSports.com chose to let go longtime reporter Steve Melewski.
Orioles pitchers and catchers reported to spring training Wednesday, with their first workout scheduled for Thursday morning. The club’s first full squad practice is Tuesday. Workouts will be open to fans from Thursday through Feb. 21, including an expanded viewing area.
Twelve games will also be broadcast on the Orioles Radio Network:
Feb. 22 vs. Pittsburgh
Feb. 23 at Philadelphia
March 1 vs. Pittsburgh
March 2 at Philadelphia
March 8 vs. Tampa Bay
March 9 vs. Minnesota
March 14 vs. Minnesota
March 15 at Pittsburgh
March 16 vs. Philadelphia
March 21 vs. Detroit
March 22 at Pittsburgh
March 23 vs. Atlanta
