A combined 14 All-Star selections, 10 Golden Gloves, three Silver Slugger Awards and three 1983 World Series rings will be at the Orioles’ disposal in gearing up for the 2025 season.

On Wednesday, the club announced that nine guest coaches will be at spring training, including former stars Nick Markakis, Adam Jones and J.J. Hardy — the core trio of Baltimore’s success a decade ago. Jones and Hardy were in Sarasota, Florida, this time last year, but Markakis is a new addition.

Other guest coaches include Zack Britton, Al Bumbry, Ben McDonald, Scott McGregor, Brian Roberts and John Shelby.

McGregor, Bumbry and Shelby were all members of Baltimore’s 1983 championship team.

McGregor was the team’s ace. He struck out six in eight innings of two-run ball in Game 1 then famously pitched a shutout in the decisive Game 5. Bumbry was the team’s starting center fielder, having eventually retired with a career 24.5 wins above replacement. And Shelby, also an outfielder, went 4-for-9 that series, helping Baltimore win a World Series in his first full season as a big leaguer.

Roberts played 13 seasons with the Orioles before hanging up his cleats in 2013. Britton was in Baltimore from 2011 to 2018, and his 139 career saves rank second in franchise history. His older brother, Buck, is on the Orioles’ coaching staff after spending last season managing the Triple-A Norfolk Tides.

McDonald was the first No. 1 overall draft pick in franchise history. He pitched seven seasons in Baltimore and later returned as a broadcaster with the team-owned Mid-Atlantic Sports Network.

Markakis, Jones and Hardy represent a more recent era of Orioles success. Under manager Buck Showalter, they were the American League’s winningest team in the early 2010s. None have strayed far from the team or baseball.

Jones was hired by the Orioles last month as a special adviser to executive vice president and general manager Mike Elias, a return he called “truly an honor.” In August, Markakis was inducted into the Orioles Hall of Fame. Even Hardy hilariously made headlines last year for upsetting his neighbors by building a mini-baseball field in his backyard.

All that baseball success and wisdom will be in Florida starting Wednesday, the day pitchers and catchers report, until March 10.
