One of Baltimore's oldest bars — one that claims to be the country's oldest Irish pub — will close by September.

Founded in 1847, Patrick's of Pratt Street (934 W. Pratt St., Hollins Market) will soon be for sale, owner Patrick Rowley said Thursday.

Founded by Rowley's “great-great-uncle” Patrick Healey, the bar has been continuously owned and operated by the family since it opened, according to its website. Rowley has owned the bar with wife, Anne, (“the boss”) since 1999.

Patrick's has been known for its crab cakes, cappuccino and wine selection, as well as live Irish music.

A Baltimore Sun dining review from 2006 described Patrick's as “remarkably uncluttered, especially when one considers all the history it contains within its walls. It's also blessedly free of cutesy four-leaf clovers and dancing leprechauns.”

Rowley said he's leaving the bar but will continue his other job with his wife — selling trips to Ireland.
