


28-year-old inmate’s death at Eastern Correctional Institution generates a state police investigation

Maryland State Police are investigating the death of a 28-year-old man at the Eastern Correctional Institution in Westover on Saturday.
Police said the inmate, Shane Lanham, was found lying on the floor unresponsive at the medium-security men’s prison after being in a cell with another inmate. Lanham was pronounced dead by medical personnel.
A suspect, who is also an inmate, has been identified, investigators said.
The suspect has not been charged as police continue to investigate, according to a news release.
Upon completion, the investigation will be presented to the Somerset County State’s Attorney’s Office for review.
