Soon-to-be first lady Melania Trump has suggested the Obama administration withheld information during the transfer of power to her husband, President-elect Donald Trump, in 2016.

Her comments came during a wide-ranging conversation on Fox News ahead of Inauguration Day, which will see her husband retake the White House, this time following the Biden administration. Recalling the first transfer of power, Melania Trump explained entering the White House will be different in her second time around.

“The difference is I know where I will be going, I know the rooms where we will be living,” she said. “I know the process.

“The first time was challenging, we didn’t have much of the information. The information was [withheld] for us from the previous administration.”

A representative for former President Barack Obama’s office did not immediately respond to a request Thursday for comment about the allegation.

Melania Trump added she expects her upcoming return to go much more smoothly.

“I have everything, I have the plans, I could move in, I already packed, I already selected the furniture that needs to go in,” she said.

On Jan. 20, she added, the transition team will have just five hours to move the Bidens out of the building and move the Trumps in. This requires detailed planning even down to the minute, Melania Trump said.

“I just feel that people didn’t accept me maybe, they didn’t understand me the way maybe they do now,” she noted of her first term in the White House. Melania Trump also mentioned her opinions sometimes differ from those of her husband.

“I didn’t have much support, maybe some people they see me as just the wife of the president, but I’m standing on my own two feet, independent, I have my own thoughts,” she said. “I have my own yes and no. I don’t always agree what my husband is saying or doing and that’s okay.”

“I give him my advice. Sometime he listens, sometimes he doesn’t.”

Former first lady Michelle Obama will not attend Trump’s inauguration next week despite her husband confirming he will attend. She was also notably missing during this month’s state funeral for former President Jimmy Carter, which was attended by former presidents and their spouses.
