On Monday, William Zev Steen, 46, of Baltimore, was sentenced to 23 years in federal prison, followed by lifetime supervised release, for sexual exploitation of a child, according to a Department of Justice news release.

According to his guilty plea, from 2005 to 2011, Steen sexually abused the minor victim from the time she was 2 years old until she was 8 years old.

Steen recorded two of instances of sexual abuse in 2008 when the minor victim was 5 years old, according to the news release. Steen also admitted that in 2022, he collected and shared files depicting the sexual abuse of prepubescent minors using a peer-to-peer file sharing network.

The files documenting Steen’s abuse of the minor victim were located on his digital devices after his arrest in November 2022. The sentence was announced by Erek L. Barron, U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland; Special Agent in Charge Michael S. McCarthy of Homeland Security Investigations ; and Commissioner Richard Worley of the Baltimore Police Department.
