All MTA Metro Subway stations will close this weekend for testing of a new Communications Based Train Control system, per the Maryland Department of Transportation.

“The CTBC is a critical piece of infrastructure that will support the new Metro Subway railcars that will begin service in mid-2025,” according to a transportation department statement.

All stations were to close on Friday at 8 p.m. and reopen on Monday at 4 a.m. Shuttle buses will be available to transport riders between all stations throughout the weekend. They will run every 30 minutes and during regular service hours.

The new control system is part of the agency’s $400 million investment to improve Metro Subway operations.

Future closures for testing are also expected in November, December, February, March and April.
