Loyola Maryland senior attackman Pat Spencer, a two-time finalist for the Tewaaraton Award, headlines the group of male nominees on the 2019 watch list.

The Tewaaraton Award recognizes the top male and female college lacrosse player. The watch list, which was released Thursday night, includes 50 male and female candidates each.

Besides Spencer (Boys’ Latin), the top-ranked Greyhounds boast another nominee in senior goalkeeper Jacob Stover (McDonogh).

Among area schools, No. 7 Towson is represented by senior short-stick defensive midfielder Zach Goodrich and senior faceoff specialist Alex Woodall (St. Mary’s), No. 2 Maryland by junior attackman Jared Bernhardt, No. 18 Johns Hopkins by senior attackman Kyle Marr, and Navy by senior midfielder Greyson Torain (Glen Burnie resident).

Candidates with roots in the Baltimore metropolitan area include Lehigh senior defenseman Craig Chick (South River), Notre Dame junior midfielder Bryan Costabile (Mount St. Joseph), Syracuse sophomore midfielder Brendan Curry (Calvert Hall), Denver senior defenseman Dylan Gaines (Boys’ Latin), Yale junior attackman Jackson Morrill (McDonogh), Army West Point senior defenseman Johnny Surdick (Odenton resident) and High Point senior goalie Tim Troutner Jr. (St. Mary’s).

On the women’s side, No. 2 Maryland placed six nominees on the watch list. They are senior defender Julia Braig (St. Paul’s), junior defender Lizzie Colson (Manchester Valley), graduate student midfielder Erica Evans, senior midfielder Jen Giles (Mount Hebron), junior attacker Caroline Steele (Severn) and senior goalkeeper Megan Taylor (Glenelg).

No. 12 Loyola Maryland was represented by three players in senior attacker Hannah Powers, sophomore attacker Livy Rosenzweig and senior midfielder Taylor VanThof. Navy has a candidate in junior attacker Kelly Larkin, while Towson has one in junior defender Olivia Conti.

Nominees from the Baltimore metropolitan area include Notre Dame sophomore midfielder Andie Aldave (McDonogh), Notre Dame junior midfielder Savannah Buchanan (McDonogh), Penn State senior attacker Madison Carter (South River), Gettysburg senior midfielder Steph Colson (Manchester Valley), Princeton senior attacker Elizabeth George (McDonogh), Florida senior goalkeeper Haley Hicklen (Towson), Duke senior attacker Olivia Jenner (McDonogh) and James Madison senior defender Caroline Sdanowich (John Carroll).

Sam Apuzzo, a senior attacker for No. 1 Boston College who won last year’s Tewaaraton Award, is a returning candidate.

The winner will be announced during a ceremony on May 30 in Washington, D.C.
