The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform will hold a hearing on “The Government Accountability Office’s 2025 High-Risk List.”

Chairman Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., said the hearing will highlight the GAO’s recommendations to protect taxpayers. Committee members will evaluate the areas in “critical need” of oversight as well as discuss vulnerable federal programs as the Trump administration and Department of Government Efficiency look to eliminate waste.

“Despite GAO’s recommendations to protect taxpayers and their comprehensive reports released each year, bloated federal programs continue to squander taxpayer funds and fail to meet basic objectives. Americans are tired of the federal government failing its report card and demand action. GAO’s work provides the Trump Administration, including DOGE, a roadmap to take on the runaway federal bureaucracy,” Comer said ahead of the Tuesday hearing.

The Government Accountability Office is a nonpartisan agency in the legislative branch that issues a report at the start of each Congress to “identify which federal programs are most susceptible to waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement and includes recommendations to executive branch agencies as well as Congress.”

Comer said DOGE has highlighted GAO’s work in identifying trillions of dollars lost to waste and fraud.

“The Oversight Committee is excited to continue working with President Trump and DOGE to deliver on our shared mission of eliminating waste, fraud and abuse in the federal government,” Comer said. “This hearing will examine GAO’s 2025 High-Risk List to shine a light on federal programs that are especially susceptible to waste and abuse, as well as identify solutions to ensure the government is working efficiently and effectively. Americans are demanding action and President Trump, DOGE and Republicans in Congress are delivering on that promise.”

The Delivering on Government Efficiency subcommittee, which works with DOGE, will hold its second hearing Wednesday to examine how foreign aid has “undermined” U.S. interests.

The hearing, titled “America Last: How Foreign Aid Undermined U.S. Interests Around the World,” was announced by the House Oversight Committee. Subcommittee members during the hearing will seek to “expose egregious foreign aid spending that has undermined U.S. interests, review proposed reforms, and aid the Trump Administration’s efforts to rein in America’s bloated bureaucracy,” a news release said.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., chairwoman of the subcommittee, said in a statement the hearing comes as Americans are “shocked” to discover how “their taxpayer dollars have been spent overseas.”

The subcommittee released data Monday showing 72% of Americans support the creation of DOGE, with 60% believing Elon Musk and DOGE are helping to make “significant”
