Rats. Exposed wiring and insulation.
Broken or blocked exits and inoperable restrooms.
A new report from the city’s inspector general says 15 workers at Carroll Park Golf Course have been struggling under unsafe and unsanitary conditions for months.
Sent to the mayor’s office, Baltimore City Council President Nick Mosby and other municipal officials, the report shows four photos of dead rodents dating back to May, as well as exposed wiring, blocked exits and an overall dilapidated facility for the workforce at Carroll Park Golf Course in the 2100 block of Washington Boulevard.
The majority of the workers are in landscaping and maintenance, while one works in the office, the report says. During a site visit from the Baltimore City Office of the Inspector General in September, workers told the inspectors that the office has “an ongoing rodent infestation,” which they reported to the Department of General Services.
On the office wall hung a certificate of inspection from the Maryland Department of Labor that expired in 2017.
The report also showed unlocked garages with landscaping equipment inside and unsecured snowplows outside, both possibly becoming targets for theft.
Signed by Inspector General Isabel Mercedes Cumming, the report concludes by saying that the facility might be in violation of Occupational Health and Safety regulations, as well as memorandums of understanding the city holds with labor unions.
