A Brooklyn Park man threatened to “blow up Anne Arundel” during an appearance in front of a court commissioner, police said.
Gerald Trovinger III, 31, is charged with threatening state officials and threatening mass violence, both misdemeanors, following an initial appearance before a court commissioner for other alleged crimes on March 20.
According to court documents, Trovinger was originally charged with second-degree assault, disorderly conduct, theft, malicious destruction of property, resisting arrest and failure to obey a lawful order in connection with a shoplifting incident at Food Lion in Glen Burnie on March 18.
During his initial appearance before a court commissioner two days later, Trovinger told the commissioner, “I’m going to blow up Anne Arundel,” according to court documents.
He also reportedly said, “When I get out, I’m killing everyone, police, commissioners.”
A status hearing for the two threat charges will be held May 16.
According to court documents, Trovinger is asking for the charges to be dismissed and certain pieces of “illegally seized” evidence, which weren’t specified, to be suppressed.
The motion alleges unspecified evidence in the case was obtained illegally. It also alleges that any statements taken from Trovinger were taken involuntarily during an interrogation that did not follow legal requirements.
Trovinger’s public defender, Madison Buchness, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney’s Office said it cannot comment on active cases.
