A Pasadena man attacked his neighbor with a hatchet following a dispute last week, Anne Arundel Police say.

James Gulley, 68, was arrested Oct. 4 at Stoney Point Way in Pasadena after officers responded to a call of a dispute between two neighbors. According to the police report, the assault occurred following an altercation Gulley had with a neighbor, who is identified as Ryan Mittrick, the night before.

What the argument was about is unknown, Adrienne Johnson, a spokesperson for Anne Arundel police, said Tuesday. However, she did indicate that Gulley and Mittrick knew each other and were drinking the night before Friday’s altercation.

On Friday, Gulley returned to Mittrick’s residence and assaulted him with the hatchet, the police report says. Gulley was eventually disarmed. Mittrick did not have life-threatening injuries and refused medical treatment, Johnson said.

Charging documents indicate Gulley was arrested Friday and charged with assault, reckless endangerment and illegal possession of a firearm. Gulley was prohibited from possessing a firearm from a previous conviction, the report said. Mittrick was also arrested and charged with violating his pretrial release in a separate case, the police report stated. The report did not include further details. Anne Arundel Police are asking anyone with information to call 410-222-6145 or the Tip Line at 410-222-4700.
