Angela “Angie” Barmore Huso, a Calvert School staff member and Hunt Valley Presbyterian Church volunteer, died of pancreatic cancer March 2 at Gilchrist Cares Towson. She was 66 and lived in Parkton.
Born in Freeport, Illinois, she was the daughter of John Barmore, a Kelly-Springfield tire maker and his wife Bonnie Diemer, a homemaker. She attended Orangeville High School and earned a degree at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. She was the first member of her family to attend college.
“Angelia was friendly and a little bit shy. She could really sew — she was a home economics major — and was brave and willing to try new things,” said Marie Fragodt, a friend from Iowa State.
She met her future husband, David Huso, who later became a large animal veterinarian, through mutual friends. They married in 1981. They settled in Baltimore in 1984 and she became a buyer for the Pace Membership Warehouse.
“She moved to Baltimore with my dad, fell in love with the city and Maryland and never left the state,” said her daughter, Vienna Huso. “They bought a rowhouse on Luzerne Avenue off Patterson Park and renovated it themselves. She had an amazing eye for design, and appreciated historic architecture and making old things new.”
She raised four children, moved to northern Baltimore County and then worked at Riley and Associates, a real estate firm.
She later worked at the Calvert School’s preschool division in Tuscany-Canterbury for the past five years.
“Mom was creative, hard-working, selfless, thoughtful and unique,” her daughter Vienna said. “She was the decorator for her church’s Easter and Christmas services. She had an enormous heart for hospitality and gathering people together.”
She was a member of Hunt Valley Presbyterian Church and was active in English as a Second Language ministry and the children’s ministry.
“Angie was innovative within our church’s creative arts team. She had an eye for design and a way for repurposing items and giving them new life. She brought the look of an art exhibit to Christmas or Easter,” said Eric Heiland, Hunt Valley Presbyterian Church’s director of weekend services.
“Angie was an encouraging person and saw the good in you — and highlighted that,” said Kim Sutter, a friend of 34 years. “She was not flashy. She never sought attention. She was steady, wise and never pretentious. She was genuinely happy for others, her friends and family. She brought beauty and utility to things. She delighted in looking at something and making it beautiful.”
She attended the Chesapeake Shakespeare Co. and was a Great Books Club member.
The memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. March 29 at Valley Presbyterian Church, 2200 W. Joppa Road.
Survivors include three sons, Nicholas “Nick” Huso of Madison, Wisconsin, Tait Huso, of Baltimore and Walker Huso, also of Baltimore; a daughter, Vienna Huso, of Hereford; her parents, John and Bonnie Barmore, of Orangeville, Illinois; two brothers, Brian Barmore and Brent Barmore, both of Arkansas; three sisters, Dawn Enzinger, of Freeport, Illinois, Mindy Morehardt, of Lena, Illinois and Michelle Bowen, of Dakota, Illinois; and a grandson. Her husband of 34 years, David Huso, a veterinarian who became a Johns Hopkins cancer researcher, died in 2016.
