The family of 17-year-old Kevin Morrison is grappling with grief after he was fatally shot in a double shooting at the Kernan Gardens Apartments on North Forest Park Avenue on Christmas Eve. A man was also injured in the incident.
Keirra Morrison, Kevin’s mother, said she cries and can’t sleep. “I just want to know the person who did it and why,” she said. “It’s not fair. It’s not fair that my baby was taken away from me at this age. He’s only 17 and I know Kevin knew better. I just want answers, I really want answers.”
Cora Jones, Kevin’s grandmother, said she feels “like a part of [her] is gone too.”
“I want justice to be done,” she added. “And then maybe I’ll be able to sleep, rest, eat and feel comfortable with myself because the holidays will never be the same for me.”
Baltimore police have released few details about the case, which remains active and ongoing. No suspect information has been provided.
Kevin’s killing is part of the troubling trend of gun violence involving juveniles in the city this year.
“Right now, with this violence with all these young kids today, it’s terrible,” Jones said. “That’s all you see now today is in the cemetery and on the news all day every day.”
Keirra Morrison recounted a disturbing dream she had two days before the shooting, in which her son was in a car crash. “All I remember is him getting on the bed and them rushing him to the hospital. I jumped out of my sleep and I straight called him and he was like ‘mom, I’m all right.’ And then two days later I get a call,” she said.
