Severna Park, Broadneck settle for 1-1 draw
Falcons, Bruins halted in second half; AACS tops
St. Mary’s in overtime
A pivotal field hockey match between No. 8 Severna Park and No. 9 Broadneck ended in a 1-1 tie after inclement weather forced the game to halt in the second half Thursday night.
The visiting Falcons kept the Bruins on their heels from the start, but couldn’t score in the early going.
The Bruins drew first blood when Broadneck’s Anna Feick put one in the back of the cage on the Bruins’ first corner less than five minutes into the game.
Lila Slattery answered for Severna Park with 10 minutes left in the half to secure the tie.
The Bruins were on the attack to start the second half when the incoming storm system halted play just five minutes into the half.
The two squads came into the match with nearly identical records as they both chase South River, which sits atop the county with a 4-1 record (9-3 overall).
Field hockey rules state that a game is complete if one half has been played and the game does not resume.
Both teams are on the road next with Severna Park (7-3-1) taking on top-ranked Notre Dame Prep on Monday and Broadneck (7-2-2) squaring off against Annapolis on Tuesday.
Julie Barksdale provided two goals and an assist, Lindsey Crawford contributed two goals, Emily Kissinger chipped in with a goal and two assists, Lizzie West pitched in with a goal and an assist, Jocelyn Povlitz and Lilly Bart each had a goal, Natalie Palmer and Justice Washburn dished off an assist apiece and Sarah McBride made two saves for Southern (7-2).
Livy Lenhart scored the other goal, Maggie Stallings registered an assist and Gracie Brewster made six saves for AACS (5-4-1).
Spira Rosseau and Kaitlyn Panebianco each scored a goal, Alexis Tackney had an assist and Reagan O’Toole made nine saves for St. Mary’s (7-2).
Jillian North made five saves for Severn (6-3).
