Hawks, Eagles put on hold by storm
Krause, Harris provide first-half goals for River Hill in weather-suspended game
BOYS SOCCER NO. 2 RIVER HILL 2, NO. 10 CENTENNIAL 0 (SUSPENDED)The River Hill boys soccer team has played fast and efficient all season, and that was the case again Thursday against visiting Centennial.
At least for the first half.
In a game suspended at halftime due to a heavy thunderstorm that hit Clarksville, theNo. 2 Hawks claimed a 2-0 advantage with the game set to resume at 3 p.m. Friday.
Alex Krause and Justin Harris scored goals to provide the advantage.
River Hill is 8-0 (6-0 Howard County) while the Eagles are 6-2 (4-2 Howard).
Just how dominant have the Hawks been this season? Going into Friday’s second half, they have outscored their nine opponents 32-1.
“This year has been different than any other year. We’re all one group, and if one person goes down, we’re all going to be there for each other,” Krause said. “It doesn’t matter what team we’re going up against, we always go in like it’s our last game. We go in hot, go in strong and that’s what we did today knowing Centennial is a great team.”
On Thursday, the Hawks controlled play from the start and Krause proved opportunistic to give them a1-0 lead in the15th minute.
Working the left side of the field, he pressured a defender into a takeaway and headed straight to the goal with the ball, placing a shot from 12 yards inside the far post.
More from Krause came less than three minutes later. After settling a quick throw-in from right fullback Cameron Clairmont along the right side, he split two defenders to reach the end line before sending a short pass across for Harris to tap in for the 2-0 lead.
River Hill has an 8-1 advantage in shots on goal with Centennial’s only shot on frame coming with 8:25 to play in the half. Heavy rain began falling in the closing minute of the first half with thunder and lightning following at the break. The game was called soon after as the lightning continued and River Hill was originally declared the winner. But the ruling was changed later Thursday night with the game needing to be completed on Friday. glenn.graham@baltsun.com twitter.com/GlennGrahamSun Goals: RH — Krause, Harris Assists: RH — Krause Saves: C — Cook 6; RH — Sherlock 1Half: RH, 2-0
