The Baltimore City Department of Transportation announced that automated speed enforcement cameras along the Jones Falls Expressway have been relocated, with enforcement at these new sites set to begin Monday.
Officials say the initiative aims to reduce accidents and enhance safety by targeting areas with high incidents of speeding and crashes. The cameras, previously positioned near the West 41st Street bridge, have been moved to northbound JFX at Smith Avenue and southbound JFX at West North Avenue. The 15-day grace period has concluded, and starting March 24, motorists exceeding the speed limit by 12 or more miles per hour will receive citations by mail. Officials say the fine for these civil violations is $40, with no points assessed on drivers’ licenses.
To ensure drivers are aware of the enforcement, warning signs and digital speed sentry signs have been installed along the expressway, providing real-time feedback to encourage compliance with speed limits. The speed cameras operate 24/7 throughout the year. According to Maryland law, revenue from the cameras will cover operating costs, with any surplus allocated for expressway improvements.
