Host Mervo broke away in overtime, outscoring No. 7 Lake Clifton 12-5 for a 74-67 upset boys basketball victory Wednesday.

The game was tied at 32 at halftime and at 62 at the end of regulation. The Mustangs' Damon Moore (16 points) made the tying basket with four seconds left. Tim Davis finished with a game-high 20 points, five in overtime.

Mervo improved to 6-3 and the Lakers fell to 10-4.

No. 6 New Town 71, Hereford 34: Matthew Johnson scored 16 points to lead the visiting Titans (12-2) past the Bulls (4-12).

New Town took a 30-15 advantage into halftime.

No. 11 C. Milton Wright 73, Harford Tech 37: The host Mustangs (15-2) won their second straight and Corey Bays led the way again, scoring 30 points against the Cobras (8-7).

Bays had 24 points in a 71-56 victory over Aberdeen on Tuesday.

Franklin 54, Lansdowne 49: With the host Indians (10-4) trailing 48-41 with 3:39 to go in the game, Mike Gibson scored 14 of his 16 points to lead them over the Vikings (9-5).

Shawn Ward also had 16 points for Franklin.

Archbishop Spalding 60, Gilman 56: Junior Connor Anthony scored a game-high 27 points as the host Cavaliers (8-18, 4-13 Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference) beat the Greyhounds (10-11, 4-8).

The win ended a seven-game losing streak. Gilman was led by Drew Ehrlich with 16 points.

Girls basketball

No. 4 Seton Keough 72, Archbishop Spalding 66: Brittani Smith scored 16 points and the host Gators (16-6, Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference) went on an 18-11 run in the third quarter to take the lead for good.

Seton Keough is tied for third place with No. 5 Roland Park for the coming playoffs. The Cavaliers fell to 7-15.

No. 8 Catonsville 66, Randallstown 30: Jasmine Dickey scored 25 points to lead the host Comets (14-2) past the Rams (3-6).

Mount de Sales 59, St. John's-Catholic Prep 50: Bridget Williams made the last three free throws as the Sailors (12-8, 10-4 IAAM B Conference) beat the visiting Vikings (12-9, 11-3).

St. Timothy's 55, Bryn Mawr 45: Kumsal Asian scored a game-high 20 points to lead host St. Timothy's (12-6, 10-6 IAAM B Conference) past the Mawrtians (7-13, 2-12) in the 114th meeting between the teams.

Shannon Bittner and Grace Greene each had 16 points for Bryn Mawr.

Boys swimming

C. Milton Wright wins: Not to be outdone by their girls team, the C. Milton Wright boys won their fifth consecutive Harford County championship Wednesday night at Magnolia Middle School.

The Mustangs, despite a disqualification in a relay for a second straight year, piled up 345 points to beat runner-up Bel Air's 309. Patterson Mill was third with 247 and Havre de Grace fourth with 202.

The boys win, combined with the girls finish Tuesday, lifted CMW to 707 points and its eighth straight team championship.

Bel Air, 628; Patterson Mill, 496; and North Harford, 430, rounded out the top four combined scores.

The Mustangs got multiple wins from Ryan Baldino (200 meter freestyle, 100 free), and Tyler Kosar (200 individual medley, 100 breaststroke). Freshman Kyle Rutherford added a win in the 100 backstroke and Wayne Walker won the 500 free as well for CMW. The relay disqualification came in the 200 free relay, giving Bel Air the win. CMW added wins in the 200 medley and 400 free relays. Patterson Mill freshman Jack Leary earned a win in the 100 butterfly, while Tucker Young of Harford Tech won the 50 free.

“I didn't have many expectations, I just wanted to try my best, and see how it would go,” Leary said of his win. “It was amazing to come out in first. It's actually a huge achievement for my lifetime.”
