A 63-year-old woman was killed in a house fire on 38th Street in Baltimore’s Waverly neighborhood Friday morning, according to the Baltimore City Fire Department.

Firefighters found smoke and fire at a two-story home at 530 E. 38th St. around 4:15 a.m. The fire was contained about 45 minutes later. One person was found dead inside the home, officials said.

“Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones during this difficult time,” fire officials said in a statement. “The cause of the fire is under investigation.”

There are no other reported injuries.

This is the second fatal fire in the Baltimore metro area in three days. On Christmas morning, a body was discovered in a Harford County house fire, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal.

The Harford County Department of Emergency Services received a 911 call just before 7 a.m. Wednesday reporting a fire in the 200 block of Doncaster Road. First responders found a single-family home with significant fire and smoke visible.

Firefighters later found the body of a victim in the residence. Another occupant was evaluated by EMS but did not require transport. Disaster Assistance is on-site to support approximately four to five displaced occupants.
