Baltimore-founded tea brand Equitea is returning to the city for a monthlong matcha pop-up in Remington.

Founder Quentin Vennie is bringing the organic, canned ice tea brand to the North Baltimore building formerly occupied by JBGB’s, a Monday news release says.

From Saturday to March 22, the pop-up will feature multiple matcha options, including matcha lattes, matcha americanos and matcha sodas, as well as matcha flights and wellness shots. For those not keen on green tea, the pop-up will also offer hot chocolate and golden milk lattes, the release says.

The Remington outpost will also feature local pastries from Doppio Pasticceria, which relocated from the pop-up space to a new location on 29th Street, as well as “small bites and food pairings from Baltimore-based chefs,” according to the release. Drinks will range between $3 and $9.

Although the business has since moved to Los Angeles from Baltimore, the brand has maintained its community ties. Equitea has donated 10 gallons of small-batch hot tea a week to Love & Cornbread, which serves free hot meals in Penn North, since November, according to the release.

“I was born and raised in Baltimore, and no matter where life takes me, this city is always a part of me. Building a nationally recognized business and bringing it back home was always part of the vision,” Vennie said in a statement.

Now sold in more than 600 stores across 28 states, the award-winning brand also received a cosign from actress and wellness mogul Gwenyth Paltrow, who showed off cans of Equitea in her refrigerator during a “fridge tour” she posted online in 2023.

Vennie and his wife, Erin, founded Equitea in 2020 after using green tea to manage their son Jayden’s ADHD and anxiety, the release says.

“What we quickly learned about the tea options that were available in retail at the time, was that most of them were either of low quality or didn’t taste good, especially to a 9 year old!” the Equitea website reads.

“So we started making our own blends with organic, loose leaf ingredients, and came up with one that Jayden loved.”

That blend eventually became Equitea’s lavender green tea flavor, the website says.

“This pop-up is just the beginning. We’re committed to creating more unique food and beverage experiences to Baltimore, highlighting the versatility and artistry of tea while collaborating with those who have already paved the way — those who continue to challenge the status quo and push boundaries,” Vennie said.

“We’re not here to reinvent the wheel; we’re here to contribute to what already makes this city great.”
