Mike Morsell hit a baseline jumper with 1.5 seconds left to give the Towson men’s basketball team a 56-55 victory over Manhattan on Saturday for the championship of the inaugural Basketball Hall of Fame Belfast Classic in Northern Ireland.

Towson missed two shots in the final 11 seconds but both times the ball went out of bounds to the Tigers after scrambles for rebounds, the final time with 3.2 seconds left. Morsell then scored off the final inbounds pass.

Martin was 9-for-14 shooting and scored 20 points for the Tigers (8-1), who have won eight straight since a three-point loss at Old Dominion in their opener.

Mount St. Mary’s 80, Loyola Maryland 75, OT: Junior Robinson scored a career-high 39 points, missed only one of 16 free-throw attempts and sank all nine of his free throws in overtime to lead the Mountaineers (3-5) past the visiting Greyhounds.

Robinson made a pair of free throws with 3:12 to play in overtime to cut the deficit to 73-71. Two possessions later, Chuck Champion fouled Robinson on a 3-point attempt and he made all three free throws with 98 seconds left.

Isaiah Hart led Loyola (1-6) with 26 points.

UMBC 98, The Citadel 72: K.J. Maura scored 21 points with seven assists and six rebounds and led six players in double-figure scoring as the Retrievers beat the Bulldogs (3-5).

Joe Sherburne added 16 points and eight rebounds for visiting UMBC (5-4). Arkel Lamar had 15 points and nine rebounds, Brandon Horvath had 15 points and seven rebounds, Josh Rosario had 13 points and four assists and Max Curran chipped in 11 points and nine rebounds.

UMES 74, American 70: Tyler Jones scored 18 points, including the clinching free throws with 10 seconds left, Miryne Thomas had 17 points and 10 rebounds and the host Hawks (3-5) rallied to defeat the Eagles (2-4).

Women

No. 15 Maryland 75, Akron 54: Kaila Charles had 23 points and 14 rebounds, Kristen Confroy hit five 3-pointers and also scored 23 points, and the visiting Terps beat the Zips (3-3) for their fifth straight victory.

Confroy was 5-for-7 from 3-point range to help set a season high in points. Charles reached the 500-point mark in her 44th career game.

Brianna Fraser added eight points, seven rebounds and five assists for Maryland (7-2), which was just 11-for-20 from the free-throw line and turned the ball over 21 times.

Mount St. Mary’s 71, Loyola Maryland 63: Juliette Lawless scored 18 points and the host Mountaineers (1-6) beat the Greyhounds. Stephanie Karcz had 15 points, 12 rebounds and six steals for Loyola (2-5).

Morgan State 55, New Jersey Institute of Technology 43: Lexus Spears scored 20 points and Braennan Farrar added 14 to lift the host Bears (5-3) over the Highlanders (0-8).
