The Baltimore Sun, FOX45 and WJLA are expanding “Spotlight on Maryland,” an investigative team created to provide impactful reporting that holds Maryland institutions to account, the organizations announced this week.
Up to 20 new investigative reporters will help the organizations increase coverage across the state.
“This expansion strengthens our ability to uncover the truth and hold those in power accountable,” Trif Alatzas, The Sun’s publisher and editor-in-chief, said in a statement.
“By combining the investigative expertise of The Baltimore Sun with FOX45’s commitment to in-depth journalism, we’re ensuring that Marylanders have access to the critical reporting they need to stay informed and engaged,” Alatzas said. The partnership will take advantage of the investigative resources of WJLA in Washington, D.C., to cover important stories from Montgomery and Prince George’s counties and across the state of Maryland, according to the organizations. The “Spotlight on Maryland” investigative team will provide in-depth investigations of government, corruption, wasteful spending and lack of transparency.
“Through this expansion of investigative reporting, we are reinforcing our commitment to delivering impactful journalism that drives change across the state,” Scott Livingston, senior vice president of news for Sinclair, said in a statement. “This partnership ensures that vital stories affecting Marylanders receive the attention they deserve from the largest team of investigative reporters in the region.”
Sinclair owns WJLA and FOX45, and David D. Smith, the executive chairman of Sinclair Broadcast Group, acquired The Baltimore Sun last year.
“Spotlight on Maryland” investigations will be available across multimedia platforms: social, digital, broadcast and print, the organizations said, ensuring accessibility and widespread reach.
