A family-friendly celebration of Carroll County’s veterans is set for today, noon to 4 p.m., at the Carroll County Farm Museum, 500 S. Center St., Westminster.

The event, held for the first time in 2022, is hosted by the Veterans Services Program of Carroll County, and produced with insights from the Veterans Advisory Council and Celebration Committee. Commissioners set aside $15,000 in the county’s operating budget in its inaugural year and sought donations from sponsors to defray expenses.

Sunday’s fourth annual event will include food and beer vendors, displays of military equipment, corn hole, a resource fair, artisans and exhibits, a children’s bounce house, face painters, balloon artists and live music.

It’s a special day to honor, celebrate and thank veterans and their families for their service, a news release from the county states. The Westminster Municipal Band and the classic rock band Midnite Run will provide musical entertainment.

New this year is a Gaga Pit, an octagonal structure with walls that allows for a fast-paced, energetic game that combines elements of dodgeball and handball. The Carroll County Department of Recreation and Parks is providing the pit.

Westminster Strength and Conditioning is sponsoring a fitness challenge, with exercises for all ages.

A welcoming ceremony at 1 p.m. will be followed by a recognition of those who served in the military from 1975 to 1991. Last year’s celebration recognized those who served during the Iraq war, and the year before those who served in the Afghanistan War were honored. Organizers plan to honor veterans of a different conflict each year.

“Whether you are a veteran, in the military, know a veteran, appreciate veterans, or just want a fun day with good food and great entertainment, join the [Board of Carroll County Commissioners] and the community for this wonderful event,” the news release states.

Parking at the farm museum is free, and handicapped parking is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. No pets, glass containers or outside alcohol is allowed.
