A mini golf course that calls itself upscale and “tech-infused” is coming to Harbor East as golf operator Puttshack expands into Maryland.
The Chicago-based company has signed on as a tenant in the Whitney, a five-story apartment building in the former home to Meyer Seed Cos. on South Caroline Street that developer Chasen Cos. plans to open next year.
Puttshack, part of what it calls a growing “competitive socializing” trend, will have three nine-hole mini golf courses using technology that keeps track of scores and another game experience that’s under development. The 25,000-square-foot venue will have two full-service bars and an outdoor patio that seats 50.
Holes on the course include a life-size beer pong, air hockey, roulette, Connect Four and a true/false hole.
Drew Peace, chief operating officer of Chasen, said the mini golf facility is part of the developer’s vision to bring more residences and retail to the city.
Chicago-based Puttshack got its start in 2018 and now operates in nine U.S cities, including Atlanta, Boston, Chicago and Pittsburgh, and four locations in London. Besides Baltimore, it’s also opening next year in Dallas and Nashville, part of a plan to move into top markets with the help of a growth capital round of $150 million from funds managed by BlackRock Inc.
