Jamie Hein, 25, didn’t need jewelry to accentuate her scarlet gown. The Reisterstown resident couldn’t have asked for a better accessory than Mulder, her gorgeous 10-month-old Borzoi, also known as a Russian wolfhound. Although Hein manages the grooming salon at Timonium’s Petco, she had never come across a Borzoi at work.

“You do not see them in salons. They don’t need much grooming and they’re not common,” she said.

Instead, it was her love of antiques and vintage style that led her to Mulder.

“I have this antique photo from the ’20s; it has a woman posed with a Borzoi. If you look it up, they were very popular with silent movie actresses. I’ve had that on my nightstand since I bought my first house, two years in May. I think by seeing that every day, I was really drawn to the elegance of that breed,” she explained.

That air of natural elegance and classic style was something dog and owner shared.

Although Mulder has a 6-year-old “sister” at home — Hildegarde, she’s a Shiba Inu mix rescue — Hein is already shopping for a new house with a bigger yard, so she can get another Borzoi.

“They’re like potato chips. You can’t have just one,” she said, with a laugh.

HER ENSEMBLE: Likely red gown with sweetheart neckline and slit from Rent the Runway. Black beaded evening bag she’s had for years. Bandolino black patent leather T-strap high heels from DSW. Mulder’s red bow tie from amazon.com. A little faux emerald ring for “my green” for St. Patrick’s Day.
