When Christian Jones was called for a charge with seven seconds remaining and Annapolis trailing Loyola Blakefield by one point at the 42nd annual Fred Stauffer Cap City Classic, the Dons' Kenny Lewis got off the floor and accepted handshakes from his teammates.

He earned it, as Lewis, who led all scorers with 18 points, also had a key strip and assist 10 seconds before taking the charge, and helped Loyola close out the game on an 8-0 run to win, 57-54.

After Lewis scored with three seconds to play, Jones' half-court heave was just long as Annapolis (4-4) suffered another frustrating loss.

“They made a great steal on us. [Lewis] played great defense on our guard, and that was the difference in the game,” Annapolis coach Dan Smalley said. “Of course, we did not shoot well from the line, and that did not help either.”

The Panthers went 5-for-14 from the foul line a night after going 12-for-24 against Chesapeake Science Point. Annapolis went 1-for-6 in the fourth quarter, and missed the front end of two one-and-ones in the final five minutes. Meanwhile, the Dons went 6-for-6 from the foul line in the final quarter.

“We will just need to keep shooting them. That is what it takes,” Smalley said.

The game was tight throughout, as neither team led by more than seven points. The Dons (5-6) struggled with Annapolis' full-court press throughout the game.
