Tiffany Davis, 28, said she generally goes for a sleek, contemporary look. She said she loves creating ensembles by combining basic pieces that she can use lots of different ways, and then adding a little something for a little extra oomph.

“I like tailored clothing, lots of black and neutrals. I always try to make it a little funky. It could be a scarf, or shoes. I’m always looking for odd pieces that can make it not stuffy,” said the senior adviser at the Center for Government Excellence at the Johns Hopkins University.

However, when it came to putting together an outfit for the Studio 54-themed Black and White Party, the Reservoir Hill resident looked to her mother, Carolyn Davis, for inspiration.

“I thought of this picture of her from back then with this huge Afro, a lot of gold accessories and bell bottom jeans. So I was trying to figure out how my mom would’ve dressed back then if she’d gone to Studio 54. Back then, she was really into dancing. The ’70s were her era. She definitely dressed up,” said Davis.

Davis did her mom proud. A little hunting at local shop Keepers Vintage, and Davis put together a look that would have had her fit right in with Bianca Jagger, Liza Minnelli, Halston and the rest of the Studio 54 habitues.

So — now with the tables turned — how will Mom react when she sees her daughter’s ’70s fashion photo?

“She’s going to laugh,” Davis concluded.
