County Executive Steuart Pittman will be launching a podcast focused on how government works in October.

The podcast, titled “Pittman & Friends,” will start Oct. 8, he said in an interview on Sept. 13. It is aimed at giving “another glimpse at governing” through “fun and revealing conversations” between the county executive and his staff, community leaders, policy experts and elected officials, Pittman said in a email to constituents.

Pittman already communicates with Anne Arundel residents on a regular basis. He writes weekly letters, which he described as “words carefully chosen to put on the paper by me, not too long.” Podcasts give people “a real-time conversation, you get to hear people’s voices and how they think, and mine as well, and it’s something that people can do in a different setting,” such as while driving, he said.

“The purpose is similar to the purpose of the weekly letters: to give people in the county more of a front seat look at why we do what we do, how we do what we do and just sort of let them in on the relationships and the people that are leading county government.”

Pittman is not the only elected official with their own podcast. Others include Republican Reps. Tim Burchett, who hosts “Tennessee Talks,” and Dan Crenshaw of Texas, the host of “Hold These Truths.”

The first episode of the podcast will feature Christine Anderson, chief administrative officer for the county. They will discuss her job and her role in “moving policy.” But his guests won’t just be staff members. Pittman wants to invite elected officials from the county’s delegation in the General Assembly to talk about their agenda and the session’s “hot topics.” Annapolis Mayor Gavin Buckley and Maryland Gov. Wes Moore, both Democrats, are also on the wish list of guests.

Pittman’s podcast will be available for free on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Android and the county website at aacounty.org/pittmanandfriends. It will be released every Tuesday.
