Someone used a large piece of construction equipment to steal a drive-through ATM from a Wells Fargo bank in Northeast Baltimore on Sunday.

Officers on patrol in the northeastern part of the city were sent to the Parkside Shopping Center in the 5000 block of Sinclair Lane to investigate the theft of an ATM around 6:35 a.m., police said.

When they arrived at the shopping center, they noticed the bank’s drive-through ATM was missing, according to authorities.

Police spokesman Vernon Davis said whoever took the ATM used a Bobcat skid-steer to rip it out of the concrete. Skid-steer loaders, which weigh thousands of pounds, are typically used to lift heavy materials and assist with landscaping projects.

But on Sunday morning, someone — possibly multiple people — used the construction equipment to damage several barrier columns and knock off the bank’s money machine, Davis said. The suspects then loaded the ATM onto a trailer attached to a U-Haul box truck and fled the area, authorities said. Police said they left the Bobcat skid-steer behind.
