The two women finished their late lunch at West Street’s newest restaurant and thanked their waiter for his service.

It was a great meal, they said, especially considering the restaurant is only days old.

The pair didn’t learn until after paying their check that most of the employees had never before worked in a restaurant. Many of them, in fact, live at the Light House, a homeless shelter in Annapolis.

“That’s my goal,” said Elizabeth Kinney said of the customers’ reaction, as she clapped her hands and smiled.

The shelter’s Light House Bistro opened last week. The restaurant will provide Light House residents with transitional employment, anywhere from six months to a year, as they look for permanent work, said Kinney, president of the Light House Social Enterprise.
