Local Coast, an Anne Arundel County clothing brand featuring imagery of nature and the Chesapeake Bay, will be opening a storefront on Main Street in Annapolis where the Leader, another clothing store, once did business. .
In September, Local Coast opened a brick-and-mortar location in Severna Park. The company began in 2021.
Local Coast is veteran-owned, according to the Greater Severna Park and Arnold Chamber of Commerce, and 5% of its proceeds are donated to the Wounded Warrior Project, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, and other marine ecosystem-supporting charities.
“Our family-driven venture, initially modest in scale, has swiftly evolved into a cherished lifestyle brand, resonating with enthusiasts along the entire coastline,” owners Jose and Kristen Umana wrote on the Annapolis Influencers Facebook and Instagram pages. “Infused with the spirit of the sea and the thrill of outdoor pursuits, Local Coast has become a beloved emblem of coastal living, capturing the essence of the maritime culture that defines the region.”
The store boasts over a dozen designs on shirts and hats. Many use the theme of hunting, fishing, or surfing. There are also miscellaneous items like koozies, stickers, and tumblers.
According to ZoomInfo, which collects business records, the company has made almost $4.87 million in revenue over the past year and employs 16 people.
The previous tenant, the Leader, closed after more than 30 years after the Main Street building was sold late last year, according to real estate firm Hyatt Commercial.
Hyatt did not disclose the new owner, but the three-story building sold for $1.75 million.
The Umanas were unavailable for an interview Monday but did note the store is expected to open in early May.
Banners are posted in the windows announcing the new tenant asking people to apply to work there.
