


Guardians: Guardians ace Shane Bieber will not throw for seven days and will have his right elbow rechecked next week after experiencing soreness during a bullpen session on Tuesday. Bieber met with team doctors and consulted with specialist Dr. Keith Meister on Friday. The right-hander was scheduled to make his second rehab start with Double-A Akron on Friday before the setback.
Brewers: Left-handed pitcher Tyler Alexander, who got designated for assignment by the Brewers this week, has elected free agency after clearing waivers. Alexander, 30, had been designated for assignment on Sunday.
Marlins, Rays: Jonathan Aranda drove in two runs Friday to lead the Rays over the Marlins 4-3 at George M. Steinbrenner Field. It was the Rays’ fourth straight win to improve to 34-29, and the Marlins’ fifth consecutive loss to drop to 23-38. Aranda is hitting .379 at the Rays’ temporary home ballpark. He drove in the first run on a single in the first inning, just one of two hits the Rays got with runners in scoring position in 14 chances. He drove in another run on a groundout in the two-run third inning. Aranda singled again in the seventh and scored what turned out to be the winning run after singles by Jake Mangum and Matt Thaiss. Zack Littell (6-5) held the Marlins to one run on six hits over six innings. Agustin Ramirez homered off Littell in the fourth inning and Otto Lopez hit a two-run homer in the top of the eighth inning off Edwin Uceta. Edward Cabrera (2-2) took the loss for the Marlins. Pete Fairbanks got his 12th save in front of a crowd of 8,448.
Braves: The Braves have called up franchise career saves leader Craig Kimbrel from the minors a day after having their worst blown ninth-inning lead in more than a half-century. The Braves selected Kimbrel from Triple-A Gwinnett and recalled left-hander Dylan Dodd before opening a road series against the Giants on Friday night. The Braves placed right-hander Daysbel Hernández on the 15-day injured list with right forearm inflammation.
Yankees: Yankees closer Luke Weaver had a platelet rich plasma injection in his injured left hamstring, and designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton is on track to start a minor league rehabilitation assignment next week. Weaver was hurt Sunday while warming up at the Dodger s. He is projected to be sidelined for four to six weeks. The PRP is designed to speed healing.
Athletics: The Athletics placed catcher Shea Langeliers on the 10-day injured list Friday with a strained left oblique.
Nationals: The Nationals reinstated outfielder Jacob Young from the 10-day injured list on Friday and optioned outfielder Daylen Lile to Triple-A Rochester.
Rockies: The Rockies are bringing up prospect Ryan Ritter to fill in for injured shortstop Ezequiel Tovar. Ritter had his contract selected from Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday before the Rockies began a three-game series with the NL East-leading Mets. Tovar was placed on the 10-day injured list.
