An 18-year-old was arrested in connection with a double shooting near The Mall in Columbia on Saturday after court documents say he violated a home detention agreement.

Howard County Police said Sunday that Emmetson Zeah, of Columbia, had been arrested overnight and charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and other related charges in connection to the shooting that killed a 16-year-old and left a 15-year-old in critical condition.

Police said they recovered from Zeah’s home a gun and the clothing he allegedly wore during the shooting, according to the release. Detectives believe the shooting was targeted, but a motive remains unclear.

Zeah was also charged with attempted first-degree murder in connection with a Feb. 14 shooting, according to a post on the social media platform X by Howard County Police. He allegedly fired several shots that did not hit anyone in the 10200 block of Twin Rivers Road in Columbia, police said.

According to online court documents, Zeah was charged in December with first- and second-degree attempted murder, assault, burglary, home invasions and other charges. Bond was posted at $50,000, and Zeah was given private home detention as a pre-trial agreement.

A notice was filed Friday — one day prior to the double shooting — that Zeah allegedly violated the pre-trial home detention agreement, according to the records. He does not have an attorney listed in court records.

Around 5:52 p.m. Saturday, police responded to the parking lot and bus loop area outside a Lidl grocery store in the 10300 block of Little Patuxent Parkway for the report of shots fired.

Upon arrival, officers located two victims with gunshot wounds. Michael Robertson, 16, of Columbia, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police, and a 15-year-old, also of Columbia, was transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he remains in critical condition as of Sunday afternoon.

Zeah is being held without bail at the Howard County Detention Center, the release says.

A spokesperson for Howard County Public Schools, Brian Bassett, confirmed that both victims and Zeah were students.

Robertson attended Wilde Lake High School, and the 15-year-old attends Oakland Mills High School. Bassett said Zeah was a part of the district’s “Passages Program,” which provides “enhanced services” for students to help them transition back to a comprehensive school.

Friends and family of the victims posted images on social media over the weekend remembering Robertson and expressing their support for the 15-year-old to make a full recovery. Many of the posts showed the teens surrounded by friends, dancing, laughing and hanging out outside school. On Sunday, the X profile for Wilde Lake High School’s football program showed a black photo and banner.

On Sunday afternoon, customers floated in and out of Lidl with the parking lot mostly full. Only a remnant of police tape indicated that the parking lot and bus loop area was the scene of an investigation.

In July, a 17-year-old, Angelo Little, of Columbia, was killed in the mall. An 18-year-old is still wanted for first-degree murder and related charges in that case.
