A 70-year-old man was struck and killed along a Severna Park highway Friday evening, according to the Anne Arundel County Police Department.

Emergency personnel responded to reports of a crash in the area of Ritchie Highway and Whites Road at approximately 6:50 p.m., police wrote in a news release.

Paramedics pronounced Barry Stephen White, a Gwynn Oak resident, dead at the scene, according to department spokesperson Adrienne Johnson, while the driver of the Mazda SUV that struck him remained on Ritchie Highway.

That driver, a 27-year-old man from Annapolis, was uninjured and showed “no signs of impairment at all,” Johnson said.

Police did not describe the nature of the crash, other than to say White was in the roadway when the southbound SUV struck him.

The crash is currently under investigation by the department’s Traffic Safety Section.
