Special night at Loyola Blakefield to honor late coach Savage
Loyola Blakefield will host a charity dinner titled βAn Evening Honoring Coach Jerry Savage,β which is set for 6 p.m. April 16 at Knott Hall. Proceeds will benefit the Jerry Savage Scholarship Fund.
Savage, who died May 23, was basketball coach of the Dons from 1968 to 2003. His record was 607-457, and he won five Baltimore Catholic League tournament championships and one Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference title.
The event will include a panel discussion featuring four former Loyola players: Snuffy Smith, a 1960 graduate who was the first Baltimore Catholic League commissioner and a longtime college coach; Pete Budko, a 1977 graduate and three-time BCL champion who went on to play at North Carolina; Tony Guy, a 1978 grad who played at Kansas and was drafted by the Boston Celtics; and Terence Garvin, a 2009 grad who is a linebacker for the Washington Redskins. Paul McMullen will serve as moderator.
The event includes dinner and an open bar.
