A popular movie theater in Columbia will close later this month and reopen under a new name.

Cinemark Columbia Snowden and ScreenX first occupied the space in 2023 after Regal Cinema left. It will close its doors in mid-April and operate under a new name, Phoenix Theatres, according to a manager at the Cinemark location.

The ownership change is the second in the last two years, after Cinemark took Regal’s spot following reports the company reworked a master lease agreement the company has with EPR Properties Inc., a real estate investment trust in Kanas City. As a result, EPR took back 16 locations Regal operated, four of which Cinemark took over, and one of which went to Phoenix Theatres, according to a June 2023 news release.

Phoenix Theatres is owned by Phoenix Theatres Entertainment, a management company based in Knoxville, Tennessee. There is one active Phoenix Theatres location in Maryland, Marlow Cinemas 6, in Prince George’s County.

Cinemark and Phoenix Theatres Entertainment could not be immediately reached for comment.
