The Blue Angels will soar across Annapolis skies later this week to celebrate Naval Academy Commissioning Week.

Their main performance is on Wednesday, while their practice performance takes place on Tuesday. Both events will begin at 2 p.m. at the Naval Academy.

Here’s everything else you need to know to catch a glimpse.

For drivers

The Anne Arundel County Police Department announced road closure plans for the event Monday morning and said to expect “significant traffic and travel delays.”

According to the department, on Tuesday and Wednesday, from around 1 p.m. to when pedestrian and vehicle traffic clear up afterward, the following closures will take place:

Route 450 will be closed at Waveland Farms Road, though residents will still be allowed to get to their neighborhoods.

The Route 450 bridge, also known as the Naval Academy Bridge, will be closed in both directions.

Though roads between Route 648, also known as Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard, and St. Margaret’s Road, including Ritchie Road, will stay open, they will not be able to enter Route 450.

The City of Annapolis expects parking to be limited, with metered parking being strictly enforced. They recommend visiting www.annapolisparking.com to reserve time for either Gott’s Court Garage or the Knighton Garage.

The city will offer a free shuttle from the Knighton and Park Place Garages. It can be tracked at accessannapolis.transloc.com/routes. The Hillman Garage is also available.

For sailors

A section of the Severn River neighboring the Naval Academy will be closed to unauthorized traffic during the performance. A temporary channel will be set up southwest of the restricted zone heading towards City Dock, marked with red and green buoys.

The restricted areas are put in place at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday. On Wednesday, they will be put in place at 1:30 p.m. On both days, the restricted areas will be lifted around 4 p.m. after an all clear is given. A map can be found on the Annapolis Harbormaster Website.

Commercial vessels that received permission before May 10 may be in the spectator zone, a small area nearby where the two aforementioned restricted zones meet.

According to the Harbormaster’s Office, the best places for other viewers to anchor are off Greenbury Point by Carr Creek, east of the flight area, or on the northern side of the restricted zone by the Route 50 Bridge.

Watch events

There are an uncountable number of places to go to watch the show, but if you’re looking for a bit more fanfare, here are a few events taking place across Annapolis.

For Tuesday’s practice show, the South Annapolis Yacht Club is hosting a Park & Picnic event on their waterfront lawn. It costs $25 to park, plus $5 per person over 12, or $10 per person over 12 if you’re not parking.

Assisted living facility Celebration Villa of Manresa, which sits right on the Severn River, is hosting its own viewing party for the Wednesday show. Adults are $10 and kids under 12 are $5. Seating starts at 11:30 a.m. Parking is reserved for Villa resident family members, so they ask that attendees use the park and ride on Route 450.

And for those looking to avoid downtown altogether, the Anne Arundel Public Library is hosting an Annapolis Mall rooftop viewing event Wednesday, complete with dancing and paper airplanes. The library asks that attendees bring their own chairs and blankets.
