Straka edges Lowry for 2nd win in ’25

Sepp Straka seized the lead with a par on the 16th hole and shot a 2-under 68, outdueling Shane Lowry on Sunday in the final round of the Truist Championship at Philadelphia Cricket Club for his second victory of the season. After Lowry missed the green with his tee shot at the 212-yard, par-3 16th, Straka hit to approximately 30 feet. Lowry chipped out of the heavy rough but failed to convert a 6-foot par putt, falling a shot behind. Lowry missed a potential tying 22-footer for birdie at the lengthy par-4 17th and after driving into trouble at the stout 514-yard, par-4 closing hole, he finished with a three-putt bogey. A tense back-nine duel between the two had an anticlimactic ending as Straka, above, made a no-pressure, two-putt par and joined Rory McIlroy (three victories) as a multiple winner on tour this season. The Austrian who played college golf at Georgia also won The American Express in January and now has four career wins. Lowry’s last PGA Tour victory was the 2019 British Open. He won the European tour’s BMW PGA Championship in 2022. Lowry tied for second with Justin Thomas.

MJ will join NBC’s coverage of NBA

Michael Jordan is signing on with NBC Sports as a special contributor to its NBA coverage when the 2025-26 season begins. NBC made the announcement on Monday morning during its upfront presentation at Radio City Music Hall previewing the networks offerings during the upcoming TV season. “I am so excited to see the NBA back on NBC,” Jordan said during a video message. “The NBA on NBC was a meaningful part of my career, and I’m excited about being a special contributor to the project. I’m looking forward to seeing you all when the NBA on NBC launches this October.” NBC returns to carrying the NBA after a 23-year absence. It had NBA rights from 1990 through 2002 and carried all six of Jordan’s championships as a member of the Bulls. This is the first time Jordan, 62, has joined a network. “Michael’s legacy both on and off the court speaks for itself,” NBC Sports President Rick Cordella said. “We’re incredibly proud to have him join our coverage.” NBC’s 11-year agreement with the NBA and WNBA begins in October.

Brazil names Ancelotti its next coach

Coach Carlo Ancelotti will leave Real Madrid and take over Brazil through the 2026 World Cup. The Italian — Brazil’s first full-time foreign coach in a century — will officially take charge on May 25 after La Liga ends, the Brazilian Football Confederation said Monday. Details of the deal weren’t released. “Bringing Carlo Ancelotti to coach Brazil is more than a strategic movement. It is a statement to the world that we are determined to recover the top of the podium,” CBF President Ednaldo Rodrigues said. “He is the greatest coach in history and, now, he will be with the greatest national team on the planet. Together, we will write new glorious chapters of Brazilian soccer.” Brazil — a five-time world champ — is in fourth place in South American qualifying for the World Cup. The top six teams secure direct spots to the tournament, which will be co-hosted by the U.S., Mexico and Canada. Ancelotti, 65, will replace Dorival Júnior, who was the coach for 14 months and was fired in March. Former Madrid player Xabi Alonso is expected to replace Ancelotti at Real Madrid. —Associated Press
