British actor Joanne Froggatt, who played Anna Bates on “Downton Abbey,” flew across the pond to join the crowd at the East Coast premiere of her latest work, “A Crooked Somebody,” at the Annapolis Film Festival on Saturday.

Today, she will appear for a festival spotlight event, “A Conversation with Joanne Froggatt,” at 12:30 p.m. at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts.

“A Crooked Somebody,” which has been called a smartly written, character-driven thriller by critics, is directed by Trevor White and produced by Tim White and Wayne Rogers, all of whom have Annapolis ties.

The screening at St. John’s College’s Key Auditorium was preceded by a red carpet photo opportunity with Froggatt, the White brothers and other key industry professionals.

In “A Crooked Somebody,” Froggatt plays Chelsea, the level-headed partner in crime of Rich Sommer (“Mad Men”), who plays Michael Vaughn, a conflicted con artist. Golden Globe winner and four-time Oscar nominee Ed Harris is his disapproving pastor father.
