BLUE JAYS: Manager John Gibbons received a contract extension through the 2019 season after guiding the Blue Jays to the playoffs the last two years. The team said Saturday there is a club option for 2020. His contract had been restructured before the 2016 season. Gibbons, who has spent parts of nine seasons as the Jays manager, helped the team end a 22-year postseason drought in 2015.

RAYS: Reliever Tommy Hunter, OF Peter Bourjos and 1B Rickie Weeks Jr. will be on the opening-day roster after joining the Rays on minor-league contracts. They will be added to the major-league roster before Sunday’s season opener against the Yankees. Reliever Brad Boxberger (right flexor strain), INF Matt Duffy (Achilles) and OF Colby Rasmus (hip) will begin the season on the 10-day disabled list, while RHPs Nathan Eovaldi (Tommy John surgery) and Kevin Gadea (forearm tendinitis), C Wilson Ramos (knee surgery) and reliever Shawn Tolleson (right flexor strain) will go on the 60-day DL.

METS: RHP Seth Lugo is headed for the DL to begin the season, which would give RHP Rafael Montero the final remaining spot in the bullpen. Lugo had been experiencing what manager Terry Collins termed fatigue stemming from this spring’s workload, which included a stint with Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic. Lugo underwent an MRI exam that revealed no structural damage to his right arm.
