Anne Arundel police said Friday that a body found in Glen Burnie was that of an 18-year-old man wanted in the fatal stabbing death of his 10-year-old stepsister.

Police located the body of Andres Rafael Quintana Garcia about 11 a.m. in a wooded area near the Heritage Hills community, where the family lived.

Lt. Ryan Frashure, a county police spokesman, said investigators recovered evidence indicating that the 18-year-old took his own life.

His body was taken to the state medical examiner's office for an autopsy.

Garcia was wanted in the fatal stabbing of his stepsister and the nonfatal stabbing of his 13-year-old stepbrother Monday night.

The 13-year-old was released Wednesday from Johns Hopkins Children's Center in Baltimore, police said.

“Officers that have been searching for Garcia have several mixed emotions,” Frashure said by email Friday.

“While it is tragic that this young man took his own life, they are hoping that the family can begin the healing process.”

Police said Garcia stabbed the children during an argument that turned violent inside their home in the 6400 block of Roots Drive.

Garcia's body was found Friday morning as approximately 80 officers and volunteers searched wooded areas.

Dogs, horses and the Police Department's helicopter were used in the search, Frashure said.

An Anne Arundel County public schools spokeswoman said the slain 10-year-old, Ruby Ramirez, was a fifth-grade student at Hilltop Elementary School.

She had just enrolled in county schools last month, spokeswoman Maneka Monk said.

“Students and staff are coping the best they can by leaning on each other and coming closer together as a community,” Monk said.

Frashure said the family, originally from the Dominican Republic, had moved to the area from Northern Virginia in recent months.
