Yankees: RHP Masahiro Tanaka will miss his scheduled start Monday against the Blue Jays because of what manager Joe Girardi called a slight lower right forearm strain. Girardi said Tanaka won't throw for five days but could start again before the regular season ends. “I feel like this is just a little nick,” Girardi said. “I'm not going to make too much out of this. I don't think this is a huge thing.” Tanaka, who has won seven straight decisions, is 14-4 with an American League-leading 3.07 ERA.

Giants: RHP Johnny Cueto had an MRI on Wednesday that confirmed a Grade 1 groin strain, which forced him out of his start in the sixth inning Tuesday. He is questionable for his next start, although manager Bruce Bochy hasn't ruled him out for the Giants' next series.

Twins: 2B Brian Dozier hit his 42nd homer in a 9-2 loss to the Tigers in the first game of a doubleheader. The home run was Dozier's 40th while playing as a second baseman, a new AL record. Dozier became only the fourth player in history to reach 40 homers in a season while playing second base, joining Rogers Hornsby (42), Davey Johnson (42) and Ryne Sandberg (40).

Rangers: The Rangers reportedly signed infielder Yanio Perez to a $1.1 million deal. Perez, 21, became eligible to sign in May after leaving Cuba last summer.

Nationals: The Nationals reportedly offered C Wilson Ramos a contract extension “during the beginning of the season” but the parties have not spoken in some time, according to MLB.com. The offer was for three years at around $30 million. Ramos, who is eligible for free agency after the season, is hitting .303 with 21 home runs, 79 RBIs and a .352 on-base percentage.

Orioles: The Orioles pushed back RHP Kevin Gausman's scheduled Sunday start because he is dealing with an intercostal issue. “He's got a little something bothering (him) that we think should manage by Tuesday or Wednesday,” manager Buck Showalter said.

Extra innings: Longtime Astros TV play-by-play announcer Bill Brown will retire this month. The 69-year-old Brown announced he's retiring after nearly 30 years with the team. … The Dodgers activated LHP Brett Anderson from the 15-day disabled list.
