A teacher at Milford Mill Academy admitted that he propped his cellphone on his desk, pressed record, and then left his classroom to allow the school’s cheerleading team to change into their uniforms, police wrote in charging documents.

Christopher R. Clark, 46, of Hampstead faces one voyeurism-related charge. He was charged in a criminal summons Friday.

“Because you thought they were changing. You set the recording up to capture them changing?” a detective asked the teacher, according to charging documents.

“Mr. Clark answered, ‘Yeah.’?”

Clark also told police he recorded two girls changing in his classroom earlier in January, according to charging documents. One girl was recorded in her underwear and T-shirt. Clark told police he deleted the videos.

Clark did not have an attorney listed in court records, and he did not respond to phone calls Monday.

Baltimore County schools spokesman Mychael Dickerson said in a statement that administrators “took immediate and appropriate action.”

“We continue to work with law enforcement, and because this is an ongoing investigation and personnel matter we cannot provide any additional comment,” he said.

“I can tell you is that Mr. Clark is no longer at Milford Mill,” Dickerson said later. “But I can’t go any further than that.”

Clark told police he worked eight years at the school, most recently in the special education department. He’s listed on the school’s website as a social studies teacher.

He is charged with conducting visual surveillance with prurient intent. If convicted, he could face one year in prison and a $2,500 penalty.

Detectives examined his cellphone and found in the internet search history a pornography site with “cheerleader” in the name.

“One of the girls actually saw the phone before they started undressing, grabbed the phone and then took it to a teacher,” said Officer Jennifer Peach, a police spokeswoman.

The cheerleading coach, whom police did not identify, shares a classroom with Clark. On Jan. 23, seven teenage girls were in the classroom when Clark got up and, according to the coach, he said, “If they want to change in here, I’ll be back in like 10 minutes.”

Clark walked out. One cheerleader asked, “Why is he recording us?” according to charging documents. She grabbed the phone, saw it was recording, and tried to find Clark. The cheerleaders had not begun undressing.

“I saw him setting up his phone and I watched him press record,” the girl later told police, according to the charging documents.

One cheerleader and her mother went to the police precinct in Pikesville and reported the incident, police said. The next day, Jan. 24, detectives interviewed Clark at the school.

“Mr. Clark admitted during his interview to recording the students changing in his classroom on two separate occasions,” police wrote in the charging documents. “The students believed they were changing in a private environment that was safe from being observed by others.”

The cheerleaders said they changed in the classroom about five times since the start of the school year. They use the room because the bathrooms are sometimes locked.

The department’s Crimes Against Children Unit is investigating. Police asked anyone with information to call 410-307-2020.
