Protesters opposing the U.S. role in the war between Israel and Hamas participated in a demonstration in Chicago on Wednesday, during which they associated the conflict with President-elect Donald Trump.
The U.S. Palestinian Community Network, which describes itself as a grassroots organization for the Palestinian and Arab community, posted on social media that hundreds of people marched in the city to continue the “movement.”
“Over 500 people have joined us in the streets to commit to continuing [the] movement to free all oppressed people and fight for a fully liberated Palestine!” the group wrote on X. “Reproductive Justice for all! Legalization for all! Join the movement to fight for a better future!”
Protesters marched down a street in Chicago carrying banners and signs opposing an incoming Trump administration, as well as investment in things believed to be helping Israel in the war, footage shared online shows. Some of the banners read, “End the Trump era; Stop White supremacy” and “Trump out! Stand up! Fight back! All power to the people!”
A speaker at the protest, whom the organization referred to as “Zhenya,” called on people to defeat a “Trump reactionary agenda.”
“The U.S. empire is in decline, of which Donald Trump is only a symptom. This is not the time to keep our heads down,” the speaker said. “It’s time to unite all who can be united to defeat the Trump reactionary agenda and fight back again and again until we win.”
The protesters also recited the chant, “What does Trump stand for? Genocide and war,” according to footage on X.
“Hundreds are still joining us as we march down the streets!” the U.S. Palestinian Community Network posted on X. “NO TRUMP, NO KKK, NO FASCIST USA!”
Another speaker called Democrats “murderous” and pledged to continue protesting after Trump takes office.
“Our mass anti-war and Palestine support movement will continue flooding the streets during Trump’s presidency as well to force him to stop this genocide,” the speaker said.
