Most folks who came to the Chocolate Affair — which benefited Health Care for the Homeless — were there to try the sweet treat in a number of different varieties. Heidi Sheppard, 25, took the theme one step further, channeling foil-wrapped candy in the outfit she wore.

“I was a theater major at UCLA. Because I did study costuming in school, I always think for each event, ‘How can I make this theatrical but not so in-your-face and inappropriate?' ” said the Mount Vernon resident.

Sheppard said her style was more retro-inspired when she lived in Los Angeles. But that's been changing since she moved here last June and started working as a development coordinator at the department of urology at Johns Hopkins Medicine.

“Now that I have an office job, I have to be a little smarter about how I purchase because I think retro things wouldn't be as appreciated [there]. ... I want to be taken seriously as a millennial,” she said with a smile.

HER STYLE: “Transitioning from retro to Ann Taylor/J. Crew style.”

HER ENSEMBLE: Sequined gold lace dress from modcloth.com. The Limited caramel glittery tweed jacket was a hand-me-down from her hairstylist in California — “she gave it to me when I was moving out here and I told her I didn't have enough jackets.” Nude fishnet hose from Nordstrom. Oxidized braided chain necklace from Express. Tory Burch satchel that was a gift.

LOVING WHERE SHE NOW LIVES: “I really love Baltimore. It's really funky. It has its quirks. I love how there's some kind of art festival or event going on each weekend.”
