A man who drove into a parked Baltimore County Police patrol car while fleeing from officers was found hiding among the trees in Southwest Baltimore on Wednesday, according to authorities.
Charging documents describe how county officers watched Khese Gottiare, 44, run from the Holiday Inn at 5701 Baltimore National Pike after they arrived to investigate a report that he had assaulted his pregnant wife inside one of the hotel rooms.
Gottiare had allegedly asked his wife about a water bottle that was sitting on the television stand and punched the back of her head with his fist when she could not give him an answer, according to court records.
Police said the force of the punch landed his wife up against a wall. That’s when Gottiare allegedly grabbed her by the throat and continued to punch her in the face with a closed fist. Then, he reportedly emptied the contents of the bottle on her head.
Investigators allege in the charging documents that Gottiare threw his wife on the bed and then “braced his forearm onto her face,” essentially pressing her head into a nightstand next to the bed. Officers who went to investigate the assault saw a man matching Gottiare’s description run from the rear of the hotel and get into a silver Chevy Malibu with Ohio license plates, according to the charging documents.
One of the officers decided to park her patrol car in front of the Malibu to prevent him from fleeing. Court records state that Gottiare intentionally drove into her patrol car when she opened the door to exit her vehicle, maneuvered out of the Holiday Inn parking lot, and fled eastbound on Baltimore National Pike.
At that point, county officers notified city officers of the incident and provided them with a description of Gottiare and his car.
Investigators found Gottiare hiding in a wooded area near the 300 block of North Chapel Gate Lane by pinpointing his cell phone through the “Find My” iPhone app, according to court records. Charging documents show that officers were able to positively identify Gottiare through his driver’s license and take him into custody. They recovered his car, too.
The assault left Gottiare’s wife with injuries to her foot and minor swelling to both sides of her face. Additionally, she lost consciousness during the assault, according to authorities.
Gottiare and his wife have been married for six months, police said.
Gottiare has been charged with two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault, malicious destruction of property valued at under $1,000, and resisting arrest.
