Kenneth Oliver, the first Black member of the Baltimore County Council, has died, according to social media posts from current Councilman Julian Jones Jr.
Oliver, a Democrat, served on the County Council from 2002 to 2014, representing the District 4, which includes Reisterstown and parts of Owings Mills. Jones now represents the district.
“During his 12 years in office and his time on the planning board, he made a lasting impact on our community. My sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who were touched by his leadership and service to Baltimore County,” Jones wrote.
On Sunday, Baltimore City lost the first woman to be elected City Council president, Mary Pat Clarke.
